Noopept is a nootropic which is technically not a racetam but it is one of the latest additions to the racetam family. Noopept is often compared to the original racetam however it is much more potent therefore it is taken at a much lower doses (please see below). Noopept is very rapidly absorbed and metabolised and demonstrates a stimulatory effect on nerve growth factor (NGF) and brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). Both of these neurotrophins play a key role in cognitive function, including learning, by promoting the growth and survival neurons.
Several studies have demonstrated that Noopept improves memory and learning capacity. In comparison to other racetams, Noopept not only affects short-term memory but also has a very positive effect on the long-term memory. Noopept may also prevent cognitive decline. Its effectiveness has been showed in patients with different cognitive impairments.
Key benefits:
Improved memory retention
Increased learning capacity
Enhanced cognition
Neuroprotective effects
Mechanisms of action:
As with other nootropics, the precise mechanisms of action are still being investigated. However, Noopept appears to increase cycloprolylglycine levels, the endogenous (naturally occurring) neurodipeptide. Cycloprolylglycine is a memory facilitating substance. Noopept may also have a sensitizing effect on acetylcholine processes and initiation of neurotrophins (i.e., BDNF & NGF) production. The brain function measured by EEG activity patterns is comparable between Noopept and original racetams.
Recommended dosage:
The recommended daily dosage is between 10-30 mg taken in 3 even doses. Some users report benefits even after 10 mg daily dosage. Therefore, you should start with the lowest dosage and test the effects. Due to its slight stimulatory effect, it is not advised that you take Noopept late in the evening. Noopept is water soluble and has a bioavailability of around 10%. It appears that Noopept has a longer lasting effect in comparison to original racetams.
Side effects:
Noopept is a safe and non-toxic nootropic with a subtle psychostimulatory effect. Clinical trials have found no serious side effects.
Bioavailability of Noopept:
Noopept has an oral bioavailability of around 10%. Noopept easily crosses the blood-brain barrier and exerts its effects. In terms of blood serum and neural concentrations following Noopept ingestion there is very little difference. This makes Noopept a very effective nootropic and is attributed to the fact that Noopept does not change its structure after entering circulation. The main metabolite of Noopept is called cycloprolylglycine. Elimination rate of Noopept in humans is relatively slow in comparison to other species.
